AFD FIRE STATION PAINTINGS
Starting in 2022 Plein Air Austin incorporated a series of themed Paint Outs to our monthly schedule. Paint Out Chairman,
Tom Afflerbach, developed a schedule with the themes of "Water", "People", "Places", "Rural" & "Urban" settings and locations as subjects for our artists to paint. Later that year, the suggestion was made by member artist and Vice President Paul Matula to add a specific theme of painting the historic and modern Fire Station buildings in the city of Austin.
This series continues to be very popular as a painting subject for our members and to date we have had Paint Outs at over
10 Fire Houses and counting.
Plein Air Austin continues this Paint Out series as a way to honor the men and women of the AFD along with other First Responders of the Emergency Medical Services. The Gallery of paintings below is just a sampling of the artwork created en plein air at various locations of Fire Stations of the Austin Fire Department.
